Therapeutic Massage in Largo

Used as a complement or adjunctive therapy to chiropractic care, therapeutic massage enhances the overall effect of the chiropractic adjustment and promotes accelerated healing by increasing circulation to the affected areas and promoting muscle relaxation.

Additional benefits of therapeutic massage include:

  • Reduced stress
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved balance and posture
  • Improved flexibly

The combination of chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy can significantly benefit those patients suffering from osteoarthritis, soft tissue and joint injuries, poor posture and limited range of motion.

This is better explained by understanding joint neurology and how it relates to muscle pain, tightness and function. Our muscles function through coordinated movements and timing because of messaging they receive from joint neurology and spinal nerves. Specific muscles are related to and respond to specific joint dysfunction. When we injure or overstress a joint, increased or decreased messaging occurs causing a disturbance in precise continuous sensory input to the spinal cord. This leads to false or altered movement perception. Sometimes referred to accommodation or compensation, this false movement perception corrupts the muscle response pattern affecting coordination and movement.

In simple terms, the muscles are responding to joint related stresses. Joint injury or dysfunction causes a muscle reaction known as muscle inhibition. Effected muscles become taut, tender and resistant to stretch in an effort to guard and protect the injured joint. As treatment progresses and joint function is being restored, massage therapy assists in restoring proper muscle function and improving joint movements.

We offer massage therapy when combined with chiropractic care. Sessions are 15-minutes for a regional therapy ( i.e., neck and upper back or lower back and hips) or 30-minutes for full spine therapy. Other therapies are routinely performed along with massage.
